How to Share PS5 Screenshots and Gameplay Videos to Your Phone

It should be simple to share a screenshot between your PS5 and your smartphone. And, considering that PlayStation has its own mobile app, it is. Most Captures may be configured to upload to the PlayStation app and shared from there (although this has its limitations in terms of what exactly you can auto-upload and share).

Would you want to send PS5 images and gameplay captures to your mobile device? Here’s how it works…

What Are PS5 Screenshots and Gameplay Videos?

When you’re playing a game on your PS5, you’ll notice that clicking the Create button enables you to snap a screenshot or record video footage of the action. Capturing your gameplay in stills or movies is simple.

A screenshot is merely a single frame from your game that shows an incredible moment of gaming or you obtaining your most recent trophy. It is a static picture.

Gameplay films record many minutes of footage and behave similarly to any other recorded video. This means you can record gaming and later show off your Warzone kill streak or Rocket League trick shot.

So, now that you’ve learned about these two options, how do you transfer material from your PS5 to your phone?

Sharing PS5 Screenshots and Gameplay Videos to Your Mobile Device

Simply use the Auto-Upload function that Sony introduced to PlayStation and the related mobile app in 2022 to share screenshots from the PS5. It is easy to enable the functionality. What you must do is as follows:

  • First, ensure that you have the most recent software update loaded on your PS5, as well as the most recent version of the PlayStation app on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Navigate to Media Gallery from the PS5 Home Screen.
  • Whether the option is accessible to you, a pop-up will appear in your Media Gallery asking if you want to activate Auto-Upload. Select Enable Auto Upload from the drop-down menu. The functionality is now accessible via your console, but you’re not done yet.
  • Go to your smartphone or tablet’s PlayStation App. A pop-up will display to alert you whether the functionality is accessible.
  • Use the option wheel at the bottom of the app screen to get to Game Library.
  • Captures is located at the top of the page. Tap it.
  • The identical Enable Auto-Upload pop-up will now appear on your smartphone screen. Confirm that you wish to use Auto-Upload for your material.
  • This completes the setup, and any recordings you make will now be uploaded to your PlayStation app. It’s worth noting that you only have 14 days to save your captures to your mobile device or share them through the PlayStation app. They vanish after that. Only manual captures using the DualSense Capture button will auto-upload, not auto-captures or trophy captures.

If you mistakenly leave the Media Gallery before allowing auto-upload, or if you don’t want to activate it right away, you may do it later through your PS5 system settings.

  • Go to Settings from the PS5 Game home screen.
  • Scroll down to Captures and Broadcasts and hit X to choose it.
  • To activate the option, choose Auto Update and press X.
  • Your captures will now be uploaded to the app automatically.

Once you’ve taken a picture or video to share, just launch the PlayStation app and your capture will be available under the aforementioned Captures section. Simply choose the capture to share, then click the Share button at the bottom of the screen (it is a curved arrow with a dot below it). Then you may share it with your PlayStation buddies, or you can hit Share through to send it to your favourite messaging app or to social media.

What If Auto-Upload Doesn’t Work?

As previously stated, auto upload works only with manual captures made using the DualSense Capture button. So, how do you share auto-captures, such as when you win a platinum trophy? You may substitute these approaches.

Sharing Screenshots and Gameplay Videos via PlayStation Parties

You’ll need the following items to send screenshots to your phone through PlayStation Parties:

  • A PS5
  • A handheld gadget, such as a smartphone or tablet
  • The PlayStation application (available on Android or iOS)
  • A connection to the internet on both your PS5 and your mobile device.

1. Find the snapshot or video that you want to post on your PS5.

The quickest and easiest way to find your PlayStation 5 Gallery and, therefore, the screenshot you’d like to share, is by tapping the Create button on your DualSense controller.

This will bring up the Create menu and the bottom-left of the Create pop-up should hold your most recent screenshot. Highlight it with the cursor, and tap X. This will open the image menu and with it the option Share. You can cycle through all your captured media with the L1 and R1 trigger buttons.

Alternatively, if you’d rather search in a grid view rather than a carousel, select Go to Media Gallery. This opens your screenshot and video collection. In here, you can find the screenshot or video you want to share with your phone.

You can also find your screenshot by going to Game Library > Installed. If you scroll to the bottom of the list of installed games, you’ll see Media Library. Select that with the X button and you’re in.

2. Share the Photo With a Party

Now that you’ve found your screenshot or video, highlight it with the cursor and, again, press X. This will bring up another menu, in which you will see the Share option. Highlight that and select it with the X button.

Here, you will see several options. You can either Send to Twitter (which we will do in the second workaround) or you can share the screenshot or video to your Parties (which is essentially the PS5 messaging service) (which is essentially the PS5 messaging service).

Either select an existing Party with the X button (a message thread between you and your friend/s) or create a new Party. Once you have done either of these, a message window will pop up, featuring your screenshot and a message field. You don’t need the message field so don’t worry about changing that. It is the screenshot you want.

Just hit Send and it will post your screenshot or video into the party chat.

3. Find the Screenshot/Video on Your Mobile Device

All you have to do now is open the PlayStation App on your mobile device. The Parties icon may be found in the top-left corner of the app’s homepage. It seems to be two speech balloons. Tap here to access the Parties menu.

Select the party chat to whom you submitted the screenshot or video in this section. There it is, your generated material, ready to be saved to your smartphone!

To open the screenshot, tap it. When the picture loads, a download button appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. When you tap it, the picture or video will be saved to your mobile device. You may now distribute it as you see fit.

Sharing Screenshots and Gameplay Videos via Twitter

Another option is to tweet your PS5 screenshots. Some stages are repeated as above, and you’ll need the same tools, with the exception of the PlayStation App. Simply ensure that you have the Twitter app on your mobile device and that you have connected your Twitter account to your PS5.

If you don’t already have a connected account, go to Settings > Users & Accounts > Link With Other Services > Twitter. You may also connect to additional social profiles here if you like.

1. Share Your Photo to Twitter

To find your generated material on your PS5, repeat the procedures outlined above. When you get to the Share stage, just choose the Send to Twitter option. If you have a Twitter account connected, the Post Tweet box will appear.

Again, don’t be concerned with the autofill text that will display; you’re only interested in the information you’ve written. Simply choose Post and confirm by hitting X. You’ve now shared your picture or video on Twitter.

2. Find the Screenshot/Video on Your Mobile Device

Launch the Twitter app on your mobile device. When you go to your Profile page, you’ll see that the material from your PS5 has been placed as your most recent Tweet. Simply click the picture to open it, then choose the Options menu (three vertical dots) at the top.

Then tap Save to save your screenshot or gameplay video to your mobile device. Finally, you’ve tweeted your PS5 screenshots. It’s worth noting that you may use this approach to save PS5 footage to your laptop or desktop computer if you wish to edit it into a longer film. Instead, use Twitter’s desktop client.

You Can Now Share Your PS5 Screenshots and Videos

Hopefully, you now understand how to access your PS5-created material on your mobile device and use it to mock your Xbox-owning buddies. This is an amazing feature that PlayStation customers have long wished for, and it is one of several that will be introduced with the PS5.
