Before writing the formula, let’s review what a percentage change is. Percentage change is the difference between two values divided by the original value and then multiplied by 100. The final multiplication is necessary to get a percent.

Now with that out of the way, it’s time to calculate the percentage change in Google Sheets by creating a simple formula for it.

Here is an example of the results obtained by a group of students on their two chemistry tests over the semester. The idea is to utilize percentage change to determine which kids have advanced, which have regressed, and by how much.

1. Choose the cell in which you wish to display the percentage change. In our case, it will be cell D2.
2. Enter the following formula in the formula bar: =(C2-B2)/B2*100 To calculate a percentage, subtract the first value from the second value, divide it by the first value, and multiply by 100.
3. Enter your password. Google Sheets will now compute the percentage change in chemistry scores for that student.
4. Take hold of the fill handle and place it on the cells below. The percentage change for all pupils will now be shown.

2. Go to the Format option and pick Number.
3. Select Custom number format at the bottom of the list.
4. Enter a zero in the text field, followed by a decimal point and zeroes. The number of zeroes following the decimal point determines the number of decimals in the cell. In this example, we’ll enter 0.00 to obtain two decimals.
5. Click Apply.
