25 Original Video Game Soundtracks You Can Listen To On Spotify

You may subscribe to the music streaming service Spotify and listen to as much music as you can fit into your ears for the price of an album each month. You may even feel good about it since the musicians you listen to get paid every time you play one of their songs – it’s a win-win situation.

I’ve recently started scouring Spotify for old and new video game soundtracks in order to relive some nice memories without having to load up old saved games. I’m happy to say that I’ve discovered more music CDs than I could have imagined, and it’s now time to share the loot.

The service is accessible in 15 countries globally, so if you haven’t already signed up for Spotify, go to the official website. Once installed, you may play these tracks by just clicking the links.

The SimCity 3000 soundtrack may be the best musical composition ever composed for a video game. I may be prejudiced since I spent my childhood hours zoning, constructing, and opposing tax cuts, but I’ve yet to meet someone who isn’t comforted by the deep jazz and ambient beats on this OST.

Also included are the soundtracks of SimCity 4 and Streets of SimCity, both of which were composed by Jerry Martin and are well remembered.

The original Command & Conquer was a genre-defining game, but it was C&C: Red Alert that introduced the legendary Hell March theme music, making it the ideal follow-up to C&C’s original Act on Instinct.

What better way to recall your experience smashing enemies with nuclear weapons than with this extensive music collection?

Red Alert / Tiberian Sun / Renegade / Red Alert 2 / Generals / Tiberium Wars / Red Alert 3

Another legendary franchise, another flawless soundtrack collection. The soundtrack in this game, as in SimCity, complements the pace and action well. Just hearing this song makes me want to build a room full of fires, abduct the neighbors, or build an outdoor utopia.

The tribute CD Songs in the Key of Simlish is also included as a humorous extra.

Halo (Martin O’Donnell)

The Halo music hasn’t changed all that much over the previous six or so games, which isn’t a bad thing. Unfortunately, consumers in certain places (at least in Australia) will be unable to hear all of them owing to licensing restrictions, but this should change shortly.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (Anamanaguchi)

The Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network side scrolling beat ’em up couldn’t have had a better soundtrack than from Game Boy-wielding 8bit rockers Anamanaguchi. It’s so fantastic that I was upset when I discovered the film didn’t use the same music.

If you missed the game, there’s no need to skip this OST, particularly since you can stream it by clicking on the link below.

Bully a.k.a. Canis Canem Edit (Shawn Lee)

Rockstar has a penchant for crafting entertaining third-person open world adventure games, and Bully is one of their best. Unlike the Grand Theft Auto series, which employed well-known songs to great effect, Bully featured an original soundtrack that was well suited to the game setting, characters, and Bullworth Academy.

If you haven’t played it yet, you can get it cheaply on the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Wii, and even Windows. Look for hints of a sequel now that Max Payne 3 has been completed.

Mirror’s Edge is one of those games with incredibly distinct gameplay mechanics and a futuristic aesthetic style that requires a soundtrack to match. Thankfully, Solar Fields provided the ideal complement to Lisa Miskovsky’s distinctive theme, which was prominently utilized to market the game.

The remixes of Still Alive, a 7-track EP that brings even more energy to Lisa’s vocals, are also included.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood & Revelations (Jesper Kyd & Lorne Balfe)

Despite the fact that Revelations has been available for a few months, I believe that Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is the finest Assassin’s Creed to yet. Both games provide an incredible combination of stealth, adventure, and action, as well as equally magnificent soundtracks that complement the gameplay style.

Thankfully, both are accessible for listening on Spotify, including a triple CD version of Revelations’ music. That gives you enough to listen to while you wait for Assassin’s Creed 3, which will be released later this year.
